letter to collectors

indivisible intention: As a painter, I’ve embraced the computer and the web for the opportunities they present to enliven the painting practice.

Most works appearing on TINSQUO are available for collection as original paintings and drawings and/or archival inkjet prints.

It’s a short, imaginative jump to recognize that inkjet prints are - literally - paintings. Consider this: In his day, the painter Jackson Pollock initiated a new relationship with the canvas, demonstrating that it is not necessary to stroke a painting's surface with a brush, that paint can be directed from a distance and fall with intention and meaning.

Today, the computer expands upon the space Pollock forged by diminishing scale. Whereas Pollock’s paint may have fallen through the air a foot or two, an inkjet nozzle hovers an infinitesimally small distance above its canvas. For the painter, this remains space enough to impart intention and meaning.

scalable works: To acquire a work, click on its thumbnail in the "Works On Paper" galleries. This will open a window where you can select a size and purchase your piece.

Because the works exist in a digital medium, the prints can be scaled to any size. The files contain enough information so that minimal loss of resolution occurs even with very large prints. Feel free to write me with size requests not represented in the drop-down menu or if you would prefer to complete the acquisition using a method other than Pay Pal.

investment of attention: A work’s true value is a function of the extent to which we pay it our attention - the ultimate precious commodity. Digitalization replicates Nature’s fecund offerings of beauty and sustenance, rendering the notion of scarcity an artificial imposition.

In this spirit, the inkjet works available on TINSQUO are offered in unlimited editions, signed and numbered as they leave the studio. The size of each edition is dictated solely by the collectors - in this way, producing zero excess.

Old-school economics still apply to the original paintings and drawings. Please contact me directly if you are interested in an original work.

Engaging in expenditures of this kind is a participation in the living, breathing economy of beauty.

Thank You And All My Best,

Mark Roth
